ATLU is the continental union of African traditional leaders that ATLI has been convened to establish. Once formed, ATLI will serve as its bureau and secretariat.
Africa has never lacked traditional authority — but it has lacked a continental institutional expression of it. ATLU is designed to fill that gap: a body that speaks for African traditional leaders across states and Regional Economic Communities, and that engages the African Union as a partner.
ATLI's foundational task is to negotiate, draft and convene the Constitutive Act and organisational frameworks that will bring ATLU into being.
